Whole House Fumigation
with Vikane Gas

Only whole-structure fumigation is proven to eliminate all drywood termite infestations. Furthermore, only Vikane gas fumigant has been proven through nearly half a century of practical use in more than 2 million structures. Because Vikane is an inorganic gas, when used according to label directions, Vikane gas fumigant completely dissipates from the structure following fumigation leaving no surface residue, odor or film behind. This means that you will NOT have to wash dishes, linens, clothing or furnishings after fumigation. Sulfuryl fluoride, the active ingredient in Vikane gas fumigant contains no chlorine or bromine and will not deplete the ozone. When a structure is aerated, Vikane rapidly dissipates to non-detectable levels.

Pros
  • Kills drywood termites upon inhalation through destroying the enzymes termites use to digest wood cellulose, thus starving them to death.
  • Kills 99.96% of all drywood termites in an entire house.
  • By eliminating all drywood termites from a home, re-treatments will not be necessary within a few years.
  • Vikane gas fumigant is not an ozone depleting chemical.
  • No structural damage (other than incidental).
Cons
  • Occupants must vacate the structure for up to 48 hours.
  • All pets must be removed from the property and boarded or taken with you during the process.
  • Certain foods, containers and medications must be removed from the structure completely or be bagged in special (provided) nylon bags.
  • Certain roof coverings can be damaged during the fumigation process.
  • Some vegetation or landscape damage can occur.

Termidor SC
(fipronil)

Termidor is an advanced technology liquid that is considered a non-repellent or "undetectable" chemical to both drywood and subterranean termites. That means termites cannot see, smell, taste or avoid it. Instead they come into contact with it, ingest it and share Termidor completely unaware that doing so will inevitably kill them all. Fipronil causes excitation and convulsions in insects and at sufficient doses, death by disrupting the nervous system.

Fipronil binds to three types of calcium-channels on the membranes of neurons, preventing a calcium ion influx into the cells. Termidor works very similar to Premise, with the exception that Termidor works slower on the termites therefore there is a better chance of the product being carried deeper into the colony which means more termites will be killed. Fipronil has been used around the world for over a decade in products for flea and tick control on household pets and on agricultural crops to protect food supplies. You may very well already rely on the active ingredient in Termidor to help protect and improve your quality of life.

Pros
  • Termidor is considered a non-deterrent for termites.
  • It is a registered chemical and used all over the world for multiple purposes.
  • Fipronil is non-mutagenic.
  • It is considered to not be a human carcinogen, meaning it will not cause cancer in humans.
  • There is no odor.
  • It can be used for the control of both drywood and subterranean termites.
  • Termidor will keep working long after the treatment.
Cons
  • Termidor is used as a local treatment only and would not eliminate infestations unknown or inaccessible.
  • Holes need to be drilled into the wall framing or concrete to apply the chemical, causing damage.
  • Termidor can take a few weeks to be fully effective in eliminating termite infestations.

Premise
(imidacloprid)

Premise is used to treat for subterranean termites as well as drywood termites. It is a non- repellent to termites and is very effective because the termites do not know that it is there. They take it back to the colony and it is transferred to the other termites as they groom each other. Premise is also an odorless chemical and a very similar product to Termidor SC. Premise is a product produced by Bayer Environmental Sciences, which is a different branch of the same company that makes Bayer Aspirin. Premise is a registered chemical and come in liquid forms and now in a foam form for small spot treatments.

Pros
  • Premise is a non-deterrent. Meaning the termites do not know they are ingesting the chemical.
  • The unique chemistry of Premise binds to soil and will not wash away in the rain.
  • Has no adverse effects on humans.
  • Virtually no odor.
  • Has a lasting effect against future infestations.
Cons
  • Premise would be a local treatment and would not eliminate infestation unknown or inaccessible.
  • Holes need to be drilled into sheetrock, wall framing or concrete in order to perform the treatment so that it is effective.
  • Premise treatments come with a one year warranty, whereas whole structure fumigation comes with a 3 year warranty.

CY-KICK
(cyfluthrin)

Cy-Kick is used for spot treatments in cracks and crevices where larger equipment for other local treatments may have a difficult time treating. It is labeled for safe use in residential homes, food establishments, hospitals and hotels. Cy-Kick is a broad spectrum chemical and is used not only for termites, but many other insects as well. The prescription strength version is a registered chemical and can only be purchased and used by professionally trained applicators.

Pros
  • Cy-Kick has an excellent knockdown and residual properties. It kills on contact and remains in the treated wood for a long period of time.
  • Great for wood injection. It easily soaks into wood fibers allowing it to travel further than the actual spot that was sprayed.
  • It is used to treat a wide array of different types of insects, especially drywood termites.
Cons
  • Cy-Kick does have an odor, but the odor will disappear after some time.
  • Cy-Kick is meant for spot treatments only.
  • It is a deterrent to drywood termites. Meaning if all of the termites did not come in contact with the chemical, they will relocate to a different area.
  • Locating termite colonies is a critical factor in using Cy-Kick as a local treatment.
  • Holes need to be drilled into the wall framing.

PRO CITRA-DL
(d-limonene)

ProCitra-DL's active ingredient, d-limonene, comes directly from orange and other citrus peels making it a "green" pest control product. It is a botanical based insecticide ideal for spot treatments. ProCitra-DL is also used to kill a wide variety of other pests, including drywood termites.

ProCitra-DL is also referred to as "orange oil". Due to this product being made primarily from orange peels, it has a citrus scent verses a chemical odor.

Pros
  • ProCitra-DL kills on contact.
  • Has a citrus smell.
  • It is a non-carcinogen to humans, meaning it does not cause cancer.
  • ProCitra-DL is biodegradable by 93% in 21 days and has a low residue value.
  • Low toxicity level.
  • No known over exposure conditions relative to medical conditions have been noted.
Cons
  • Kills ONLY on contact.
  • Even though it does have a citrus smell, it can be very pungent and overpowering.
  • D-limonene is a marine pollutant.
  • ProCitra-DL is highly flammable at 122 degrees.
  • This treatment is a very time consuming procedure. Holes need to be drilled into the wall framing about every 6 inches, resulting in a lot of patching and repairs being needed.
  • The effects of this chemical do not last.
